Tips for How to Celebrate the Holidays On Board

This next holiday, picture yourself curled up, reading a book or sipping a glass of wine, in the warm, cozy saloon of your AYC charter sailboat or trawler at one of the San Juan Islands’ great destination marinas. Start a new tradition that brings friends and family together on board and leaves the cooking to shoreside chefs.

One popular option is to moor at Friday Harbor Marina on San Juan Island and walk to The Bluff at the Friday Harbor House for an elegant, five-course Thanksgiving feast. On Orcas Island, Deer Harbor Marina guests can share in a traditional dinner with all the trimmings at the charming Deer Harbor Inn. For a complete list of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s events, please go to info@visitsanjuans.com.

Tips for Holiday Charters:
  • Allow an extra day (or two) for and aft the holiday to go and come safely.
  • Check the weather at www.nws.noaa.gov/ or, accuweather.com.
  • Make marina and restaurant reservations
  • Bring lots of delicious food & spirits for a back-up holiday meal.
Relax and refresh – this could be your best holiday gift ever!
The "Ideal" AYC Yacht Management Program Owner

"The ideal AYC Yacht Management Program owner is someone who wants to own a boat, use the boat, wants it in the San Juan Islands and cannot use it all the time (99% of owners)," says AYC ’s Broker and Fleet Development Manager David Motherwell. "The owner also wants to make income off the boat."

David underscores that buying and placing a boat in charter is not like most other investments. Still, depending on the boat, the yacht management program usually earns from 60 to 80 percent of the owner’s costs. AYC’s charter guests primarily range in age from their mid-40s to mid-60s and they usually travel as couples. These guests prefer newer boats in good condition with excellent gear as well as attractive accommodations that include private staterooms and private heads with separate showers and nice galleys.

If you are considering buying a boat for charter or placing your current vessel in charter, please call David at 1-800-233-3004 x 600 to discuss the program’s benefits.
